About Us

The Center for Family Services is a non-profit, private agency providing services for individuals and families in need. Located in Crawford County, we serve north-west Pennsylvania by recognizing individual and family differences and the need to individualize services.

Since 1995, we have been providing members of Crawford County, Pennsylvania, with a widerange of services. Our Essential Services Program provides assistance with housing, mortgage and budget planning, utilities and rent, and emergencies. We operate satellite food pantries throughout the county and provide clothes and household items through our clothing department. Clients may also receive support from our Counseling Program, which serves at-risk families in their homes. Finally, we run an Education Program offering classes and home-based services in anger management, homemaking, and parenting education.

The Center for Family Services, Inc. (CFS) was founded in 1995 as the result of a merger between Associated Family Services, Inc. and the Center for Families in Change. Their combined history dates back to 1863 with the formation of an organization to aid families of Civil War soldiers, and an organization designed to bridge gaps in mental health services in Crawford County.

The Agency is located in the Jo Thomas Center at 213 Center Street, Meadville Pennsylvania. The building itself was acquired through efforts of the community, with funds for purchase and restoration contributed by private donors, a legislative grant, local trusts, businesses, and service clubs. In addition, a facility is rented for the

Meadville Food Pantry.

CFS strives for collaborative efforts throughout the community in an effort to determine patterns of recurrent needs. In quarterly reports to funding sources, trends are reviewed to identify consumer needs. Among these community groups and service providers are Crawford County Coalition of Housing Needs, Essential Services Coalition, Community Council, United Way of Western Crawford County and the Children’s Advisory Council.
